[ XXXXX ] 600260 A Russian Silver Presentation Kovsh Karl Faberge ( St. Petersburg, 1846-1920), work master Aleksander Wakeva (1870-1957), c. 1907 Silver and semi-precious stones Marks: hallmarked (left facing Kokoshnik), (Imperial warrant), 88, AP, AW, K. Faberge (in Cyrillic), and inscribed Presented to Special Guard to His Majesty, Battalion Captain Alexander Nicolvitch Kolininkinu at Peterhof 1907 13 5 in. long, 37.75 tory ounces The kovsh form, composed of a boat- shaped body with single handle, is traditionally a Russian Imperial presentation piece bestowed upon loyal supporters of the Tsar. This specific example, produced in the St. Petersburg workshop of Karl Faberge, inset with cabochons, bearing the double-headed Imperial eagle and cipher of Nicholas II was presented in 1907 to Captain Alexander Nicolvitch Kolininkinu at Peterhof, the summer palace built by Peter the Great on the outskirts of St. Petersburg.
