Notes

Xiao Huirong is a dexterous painter of flowers, and his pictures of plum blossoms are particularly captivating. In Flowers in Bloom, the seemingly disorganized and crowded composition actually contains intermittent "air holes" that serve as breathing spaces, making it intriguing and full of interest. The silvery background compliments the fortitude and aloofness of plum blossoms, bringing to life Xiao's powerful brushstrokes and mature painting techniques.
According to Chinese custom, plum blossoms represent auspiciousness and happy occasions. Their five-petals symbolize longevity, fortune, health, joy and natural death. Xiao has merged his mind, spirit and vitality with the lofty character and poetic quality of plum blossoms in creating a unique style of painting - full of life and spirit.
