Notes

Mosley was born in Staffordshire in 1848 the eldest son of Sir Tonman Mosley, 3rd Baronet of Ancoats. He was schooled at Eton and went on to become a successful farmer and cattle breeder. He was nicknamed ‘Baronet John Bull’ due to his likeness to the British caricature figure, and he was drawn as such in Spy’s cartoon of him from 1898. His son, the 5th Baronet, was also called Oswald, as was his grandson, the British fascist politician.
