Large engraved folding map, hand-colored in outline, and 31 engraved plates (19 double-page) by Vivares, Godfrey and others, engraved title-vignette and a few tail-pieces, folding printed genealogical table; EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED with 13 aquatint plates (folding map with short tear). Contemporary English red straight-grained morocco, spine gilt in five compartments with double raised bands gilt lettered in one, single fillet on sides, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges, with A FORE-EDGE PAINTING OF CARISBROOKE CASTLE.

A FINE, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION of Worsley's History of the Isle of Wight, of which Worsley had been governor for some years. There are two views of his house, Appuldurcombe, which housed his extraordinary collection of antiquities, gathered during a European tour in 1785-87. Cox III, 427.
