Notes

The saint is seated with chest bare and draped with a voluminous cloak which falls in intricate crushed folds. This treatment of the drapery together with the pinched face and ringleted hair can be compared with work from the workshop and under the influence of Eramus Grasser in the closing years of the fifteenth century. Note in particular the figure of St. John in the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, Munich as well as the the figure of Christ in the Schlosskapelle zu Blutenberg illustrated by Halm. RELATED LITERATURE:
P. M. Halm, Erasmus Grasser (Augsburg, 1928) figs. 113, 120
