Description

Witold Gordon (Polish/American, 1885-1968), "Scottish Piper with a Castle at right and Resting Figures," original gouache on paper, signed with initials at lower left, measures 13x13 inches to the matt edge, overall 22.25x22.25 inches framed. Possibly a design for Scottish themed playing cards. CONDITION: Good, with some pencil marks and paint smudges present. Gordon studied in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts and worked as a muralist and illustrator before and after World War II. He did covers for Conde Nast publications such as The New Yorker and Fortune magazines.
