In the early part of William West's career, he travelled to Norway and produced many landscapes such as the present lot. He became known as 'Norway West' or 'Waterfall West' in response to his fondness of the location and subject and exhibited two works at the Royal Academy entitled 'On the high road from Bergen to Christiana, Norway' and 'At Naes, Norway'.
