William Torgerson - Antique American 19th Century Marine Oil Painting on Canvas in Carved Gilt Wood Frame. Titled, "A Paddle Steamer in an Engagement" or "Side Wheeler at Battle." This painting sold at Christie's Rockefeller Center in 2004. Paperwork accompanies sale. Label from Colorado Historical Society on back. Canvas is marked "Painted by Wm Torgerson Chicago." William Torgerson (1833 - 1890) was active/lived in Illinois. William Torgerson is known for marine-ship painter, sporting genre. Canvas measures 24 x 38 inches, frame measures 30 x 41 inches.
