William Tomkins exhibited a single view of Audley End (no. 243) and also a set of three views of the house (no. 368) at the Royal Academy in 1789. In 1790 he exhibited a view of the west and south fronts of the house (no. 147), a view of the 'Elisian garden' (no. 429) and a further set of three of the 'Elisian garden' (no. 430). Designed by Placido Columbani, the garden contained a Robert Adam Palladian bridge, and a cascade by Richard Woods, constructed in 1782 on the site of an ancient mill dam.
