Lot 507: WILLIAM THORNLEY (19th Century), "Liverpool

WILLIAM THORNLEY (19th Century), "Liverpool Docks", oil on canvas, signed, inscribed label to frame, 9 1/4" x 13 1/2", gilt frame William and Hubert Thornley were coastal painters producing very similar work so may have been members of the same family or even the same artist. It is now generally thought that William Thornley is the same artist as William A Thornbery, cf. Dictionary of Victorian Painters, Christopher Wood
