canvas, 16" x 20", signed lower right: "W. Steene". Period giltwood frame. Reference: Falk, Who Was Who in American Art, Black, Art in Mississippi: 1720-1980. Provenance: Descended in the family of Edward Kuykendall, Columbus, MS, Gift of the artist. — The painting was given to Kuykendall, who built the Princess Theatre in Columbus MS, by Steene who painted murals there, as well as all over the southeast. Steene resided in Ocean Springs, MS during his last years.
