William Osborne RHA (1823-1901) Tinder Box with Captain Lummie Harford (Scots Guards) up Oil on canvas, 49 x 57cm (19.25 x 22.5") Signed with monogram, signed again and inscribed '5 Castlewood Dublin' on stretcher The father of Walter Osborne, he was principally known as a painter of portraits and also of animals, especially dogs, horses, and hunting scenes. In all he exhibited 202 pictures at the Royal Hibernian Academy from 1951 to 1901, and from 1851 to 1872 he sent his work from an address at 3 Cronish Terrace, Castlewood Avenue, Rathmines.
