Notes

Miniatures by Bennett are rare, although he seems to have been a successful artist working also in oil. A pupil of Sir Thomas Lawrence, he exhibited at the R.A. 1812-16. In 1835 he moved to Paris, returning to England in 1844. He died in 1858 in Exeter.
