Notes

This full-length silhouette by Hamlet displays many of his typical characteristics. The fine 'fingerprinting' that can be seen to describe the fabric of the dresses and breeches of the sitters and the needlework outlining the shoes can be seen in his other full-length examples. The frame is also original and typical of this period (circa 1805-10), with beading and acanthus leaf decoration.
Hamlet is said to have taken many of his images of the royal family from Rosenberg, including the much-repeated pose of George III leaning on his cane (second from left).
