In 6s (7 3/4 x 4 5/8 in.; 197 x 117 mm). 3 wood-engraved plates, one wood-engraved text vignette, facsimile plate in Doniphan's hand; quire 7* loose, small tape repair to 8*/2, library stamp and blind stamp effaced on first leaf of text. Printed green wrappers, wood-engraved vignette; spine cracked with minor losses, apparent erasure of library stamp causing a small hole on lower panel.

Notes

The third edition, containing a facsimile note in the hand of Coloniel Doniphan attesting to the accuracy of Richardson's narrative. The journal describes Richardson's experiences during the Doniphan expedition (August 1846-July 1847) which included an overland march from Fort Leavenworth, the conquest of Santa Fe, the battles of Bracito and Sacramento, and the occupation of Chihuahua.
