Notes

This picture was completed four years before Yeames exhibited his most famous work, And when did you last see your father? at the Royal Academy of 1878. The artist has used The Punch Room at Cotehele House, Cornwall (The National Trust) as the setting for a historical drama. A Jacobite is hastily being concealed in an old 'priest hole' in the chimney. Yeames specialised in these historical re-enactments: a picture entitled The fugitive Jacobite was shown at the Royal Academy in 1869.

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
