Notes

The present work depicts the large rock located just off the coast of the Carmel Highlands below Charles Greene's masterwork, the D.L. James House (1918-22). Watts paints the Monolith when it was most exposed during the neap, or especially weak, tide using his distinctive fauvist palette.
