'Carry On' An early 20th century patinated bronze sculpture of a dying soldier lying on the ground raising his right hand aloft, the side imprinted 'Birnie Rhind RSA Edin', on a marble plinth base. 37.5 wide, 19cm deep, 42cm high (14.5" wide, 7" deep, 16.5" high)

William Birnie Rhind was born in Edinburgh. Among his notable commissions are the statue of Burns at Aberfeldy and statues of King Robert The Bruce and Wallace for the Scottish National Portrait Galleries in 1895. He is best known for his Boer War Memorials in Edinburgh, such as the Royal Scots Greys (1905), the Black Watch (1908) and the Kings Own Scottish Borderers (1919). He worked in several different countries and has public monuments in Canada and India.

A full size version of Carry On, dated 1921, is displayed as the War Memorial in the grounds at Fettes College in Edinburgh.
