In 1739 Wunder was appointed court and cabinet painter in Bayreuth and in 1763 he was raised to the rank of a “wirklicher Hofcommissarius, Inspector der Hofmalereyen und Cabinettsmahler” (Thieme-Becker Künstler Lexikon). His paintings are in the palace church, in the New Palace, and in the Opera in Bayreuth, as well as in Frankfurt and Breslau. In his prime he received many commissions from abroad, and there is almost no country in Europe where he did not ship his works to.
