Whitney, Isabel Lydia (attributed to) New York (1878-1962) FOREST oil on masonite, framed unsigned H12" W16" *Artist biography: Muralist and painter Isabel Lydia Whitney was born in 1878 in Brooklyn, New York and traveled widely, including Taos, New Mexico in the 1920s, and as a student in Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy and Russia. She also studied at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and took lessons from Arthur Dow, Hayley Lever, and Howard Pyle. Whitney was a member of the following New York City organizations: Brooklyn Watercolor Club, Brooklyn Society of Modern Art, Salons of America, National Arts Club, and Society of Independent Artists. When Isabel Whitney died in 1962, the Pen and Brush Club in New York City held a memorial exhibition of her watercolors and drawings. Whitney is listed in Vol. 28 of the American Art Annual, published in 1932 by the American Federation of Arts; Who's Who in American Art, also published by the American Federation of Arts, in 1940; and William H. Gerdts' Women Artists of America 1707-1964, published by The Newark Museum in 1965.
