WESTPHALEN
An officer's gift presented to Hauptmann Winfried Neumann by the Infantry Regiment Prince Frederick of the Netherlands (2nd Westphalian) No. 15
Bronze with a dark brown patina the plinth signed and dated by the artist "H. Baucke 09" (Heinrich Baucke 1875 - 1915 cf. Thieme-Becker vol. III p. 53) also bearing the signature of the bronze foundry in Duesseldorf and the dedication "Seinem scheidenden Kameraden das Offizierskorps des Infanterie Regiments Prinz Friedrich der Niederlande (2. Westf.) No. 15" (tr. "To their departing comrade from the Officers' Corps of the Infantry Regiment Prince Frederick of the Netherlands (2nd Westph.) No. 15") on the front and referring to the figure "Mit dem letzten Hauch von Roß und Mann" (tr. "To the last breath of steed and man"). Statue of a Prussian drummer from the Wars of Liberation during which the infantry regiment no. 15 was founded. Drumstick missing. Height circa 40 cm.
The statue belongs to the family and was consigned for this auction together with other objects from the Neumann estate. A copy of the temporary possession document for the Iron Cross I (6 March 1915) is included.
