Description

Walter Satterlee (American, 1844-1906), "Bedouin Study," watercolor on paper, c. 1890s, signed lower right with former owner's name and address inscribed on the verso, measures 14 x 11 inches unframed, overall in the farm it measures 19 x 16 inches. CONDITION: Good, toned. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Walter Satterlee was primarily known for his genre paintings, though he also painted portraits, landscapes and illustrations. He was a pupil of the National Academy of Design in New York and was also in Paris as a student of Leon Bonnat. He was elected an Associate Member of the National Academy in 1879, and in 1886 he received the Clarke Prize. Satterlee was also a member of the American Water Color Society.
