Inscribed verso, "Seth Johnson of Middletown, Connecticut and New York. By Walter Robertson (Irish, active in U.S.A. after 1793, died in India, 1802." watercolor on ivory, gilt locket frame.
note:
Seth Johnson was born November 2, 1767 in Middletown, CT, lived in New York City, and died in Holland Patent, New York on December 7, 1802 at the age of 35. He owned 20,000 acres in Holland Patent which he bought from Lord Holland, and donated several acres to the town for a cemetery.
