Walter Steggles was a prolific painter of small-scale landscapes and street scenes and the brother of Harold Steggles. Harold and Walter Steggles held a dual show at Lefevre's gallery in 1938. However he preferred to exhibit in mixed exhibitions and Sir David Scott bought this picture from an exhibition by various members of the East London Group.
