Notes

THE PROPERTY OF A LADY
Diolite was a bay colt foaled in 1927 by Diophon out of Needle Rock owned by Sir Hugo Hirst. Having been the top-rated juvenile in the Free Handicap with wins in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood, Diolite captured the 2,000 Guineas in 1930. He then finished third in the Derby. He was retired after winning six races and was exported to Japan where he was the Leading Sire three times during the 1940s.
