Lot 87: Walter Field, A.R.W.S. (1837-1901)

pencil and watercolour heightened with touches of bodycolour and with scratching out
12 x 18 1/2 in. (30.5 x 47 cm.)

Field painted many views along the Upper Thames including several large scale oil paintings of Henley Royal Regatta, dating from the 1880s.

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium, which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.

The sheet is on good overal conditions and the colours are strong though there is some fading to the more delicate pigments. On close examination there is a repaired surface scratch or tear, approximately 2 1/2 inches in the centre of the sky running vertically. the sheet is fitted into acid free mount and could be hung without further attention.
