Item Overview

Description

A lady from Laren wearing her Sunday costume signed upper right Wally Moes oil on panel, unframed 74.5 x 62 cm NOTES The sitter is dressed in the Sunday wear of the village of Laren that was first worn around 1900. She wears silver oorijzers with gold mutsebellen (drops) underneath a so-called vierkante muts (square bonnet). The coral necklace with golden lock and the coral pendant with the gold cross are typical for the Sunday wear. With this picture Wally Moes not only portrayed a middle-class lady, she also left us a historical document of the local dress worn in Laren around 1900. We kindly thank Mr. J. van Aalst, associated with the Openlucht museum Arnhem, for his help in cataloguing the present lot.
