oil on canvas, "Moon Rise In The Seara (sic) Mts. Calif." pencil inscribed on stretcher, artist signed "W Frederick Jarvis" lower left. Presented in wood and composition frame painted to simulate stone. Jarvis, born in Ohio, studied in New York and Germany, relocating to Dallas in mid-life. His career as an art teacher was punctuated by trips into the far West, during which he sought grand landscapes for his canvas.
