Frederick Jarvis was an accomplished watercolorist, as well as an oil painter. This composition, keyed to the color yellow, uses the clump of prickly pear cactus on the lower left, and the bare bush on the lower right going off the page, to reinforce the illusion of depth. The rock ledge to the left and right also contribute to the perception of depth in the painting.

Slight vertical crease near center, otherwise in excellent condition. Period frame in excellent condition.
