W Casey (1908/1909) Maritime Gouache SS Waratah Titled lower left and signed lower right 19 1/2" x 29 3/4" Known as Australia s Titanic, the Steam Ship Waratah was built by Barclay Curle & Co Glasgow as the Flagship of the Blue Anchor Line to serve the strong emigrant trade from Europe to Australia. On the 9th of July 1909 the ship sank without trace of the coast of Durban , South Africa with the loss of 211 passengers
