Lot 5522: VROMAN, ADAM CLARK.

Hopi towns, grinding corn, Tewa, silver gelatin print, 5 1/16 x 7 11/16 inches, 1895, "no. 126 / Grinding Wheat" penciled on verso, faint stains, else excellent.

An interesting image depicting two Hopi women taking a momentary rest from work, kachina dolls, a broom, a bow and arrows, etc. on the walls, and, curiously, a flash of feet (men's?) intruding into the right edge of the picture. Vroman captured this on his 1895 self-funded trip to the Hopi villages of Arizona.
