Born in Detroit, Pasternacki studied at the John Wicker Art School in Detroit and at the Academie Moderne in Paris. He exibited at the Salon D'Automne in Paris, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Carnegie Institute, and several other venues. In the 1930s, Pasternacki shared a studio at the Scarab Club in Detroit with Rupert Conrad.
