Umberto I, King of Italy (1844-1900), in blue coat with red bordered silver collar, silver epaulettes, white shirt, wearing the gold jewel of the Royal Sardinian Order of the Most Holy Annunciation, the purple and red moiré sash and badge of the Royal Military Order of Savoy and the Royal Italian Medal of Independency (of 1865)
signed and dated 'Ventura di' (lower left) and 'Roma [18]88' (lower right)
oval, 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) high, gilt-metal mount

Artist or Maker

Notes

Umberto I (1844-1900), King of Italy 1878-1900, son of Vittorio Emanuele II (1820-1878) and Maria Adelaide di Asburgo-Lorena (1822-1855). He married his first cousin Margherita, Princess of Savoy-Genoa, (1851-1926), only daughter of Prince Ferdinando of Savoy, Duke of Genoa, and was assassinated at Monza on 29 July 1900.
