Although this painting was unknown to Ulrich Weisner at the time he published his study of the artist's works (U. Weisner, "Die Gemälde des Moyses van Uttenbroeck,'' in Oud Holland, LXXIX, 1964, pp. 189-228.), he subsequently stated (in a letter, May 1966) that it was painted about 1625 and is comparable to other paintings belonging to Uyttenbroeck's "heroic Italian" landscape style.
