TWO ARCHAISTIC JADE SEALS

Late Qing Dynasty

The tortoise knop supported by a square platform base, the underside with six characters in seal script, drilled horizontally under the belly for stringing, the stone mottled and altered dark brown in areas; the
chi dragon knop carved in high relief over a square base, the underside with two characters in seal script, perforated under the body for stringing, the pale stone altered russet-brown and black in areas. (2)


Tortoise seal: 1 7/16in (3.7cm) high, 1 7/16in (3.7cm) square at base;
Chi dragon seal: 7/8in (2.2cm) high, 1in (2.5cm) square at base

Surface pitting and wear. Old chips to one corner of the tortoise seal. Stones altered to induce colors and textures for the appearance of antiquity.
