Born in Cattaro, Montenegro, on the Dalmatian coast in 1897, Tina Bauer-Pezellen studied at the Graphische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt in Vienna before attending the Applied Arts Schools in Vienna and Munich in the early 1920s. After working for some years as a freelance commercial artist, she resumed her studies at the Munich Art Academy. The years between 1920 to 1933 were the most important of her career. Tina Bauer-Pezellen found her motifs among the destitute. She portrayed working men, mothers and children and a profound social realism informs her impressively veristic works. [NB] Good overall impression. Upper edge with barely noticeable pale brown stains and a tiny blemish in the centre. Right edge trimmed unevenly. Lower right corner mended and the lower part added.
