Tim Stoner begins his eerily backlit creations with a legible, tightly painted image. He then overlays the work with thin pale glazes of paint so that the figures, though legible, seem to drift behind a veil. Stoner was born in Essex, and now lives and works in London and Spain. He trained at the Norwich School of Art & Design (1989-1992), the Royal College of Art in London (1992-1994) and the Rijksakademie Van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam (1997-1998). In 2001, he was awarded the Beck's Futures Art Award and his work is represented in The Saatchi Collection and The Government Art Collection of the United Kingdom.
