This painting is part of a private collection that was acquired circa 1900-1960s and thence passed by descent to the present owner.

Notes

Born in Heshan in Guangdong province, Hu Zaobin began studying painting with his uncle Jingqing at an early age. Later, he enrolled in the Municipal Institution of Arts and Crafts in Kyoto, Japan, where he studied Western and Japanese-style painting. He was especially skilled at painting tigers and was part of the Anzhu group of artists.
