Notes

This lot is offered without reserve.

François-Auguste Moitte was the brother of the draftsman and sculptor Jean-Guillaume Moitte (see lots 112-134). Primarily an engraver, he is best known for his engravings after works by Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725-1805). The pen and brown ink framing lines around the edge of this drawing indicate that it was most likely preparatory for a print.
