Lot 64: Thomas Stringer (fl.1760-1772)

Two spaniels in a wooded river landscape signed with initials and dated 'TS 1772' (lower right) oil on canvas 181/4 x 241/2 in. (46.3 x 62.2 cm.) NOTES Works by Thomas Stringer are often mistakenly identified as being by Francis Stringer, perhaps because of the close stylistic resemblance to paintings by Francis Sartorius. Little is known about the working practices of Thomas Stringer, although several horse portraits, often containing figures have been recorded.
