Notes

From the reverse of the miniature, it can be seen that the present lot stayed within the artist's family for several generations. The label is inscribed by his younger son, George (1809-1896), who was famous in his own right as a painter and youthful member of the 'The Ancients', who painted visionary landscapes. It would appear that the Dr. R. T. Richmond who loaned the present lot to the Victoria & Albert Museum in 1929 was probably Thomas' great-grandson.
