Provenance Private Collection, UK Thomas Hearne visited the Lake District in 1777 and 1778 to gather material for his publishing project, Antiquities of Great Britain. Another version of this composition, (18.9 x 26.8 cm) which differs slightly in the disposition of the figures, is in the Lancaster City and Maritime Museum.
