Thomas Edgar Stephens (1885-1966) -
Oil on canvas - Three quarter length portrait of a lady, dressed in the 1920's style, a band in her hair, tasselled earrings and a long beaded necklace, seated in a striped easy armchair, signed T.E. Stephens, 90cm x 60cm A.R.

Born in Cardiff in 1885 Thomas Stephens studied at the Art School of Cardiff University, he emigrated to the United States in 1929, his portrait of Dwight Eisenhower hangs in the Smithonian Institution's Gallery of Presidents. He also painted portraits of George Marshall, Douglas MacArthur and other of the US armies generals during World War II. At Eisenhower's request he painted a portrait of Winston Churchill. His works can be found in the White House, the National Gallery of Art, The Pentagon, the U.S.Military Academy etc
