A pair, the former signed and dated l.r.: T. Bretland/1852, and inscribed u.r.: Songstrefs/1852, the latter signed l.l.: T. Bretland, and inscribed and dated c.l.: DANIEL O'ROURKE/1852, oil on canvas Each 34.5 by 44.5 cm.; 13 1/2 by 17 1/2 in. (2) Songstress, by Birdcatcher and out of Cyprian was bred by Mr J. Scott and was winner of the 1852 Oaks. Daniel O'Rourke, also by Birdcatcher, and out of Forget-Me-Not, was the winner of the Derby and the St James Palace Stakes, Ascot, in 1852. He was owned by John Bowes of Streatlam Castle, Durham, and was purchased later by the Imperial Stud and went to Hungary.
