With jewel-like colours and swift brushstrokes that in some areas resemble mosaic pieces, Triantafyllides has captured a moment in the lives of village women dressed in their traditional clothes, filling their jugs with fresh water from a spring. Each patch of colour fixes the light values and luminous warmth of the carefully constructed composition. The arching back of the woman kneeling to fill her jug is echoed by the curving shape of the white fountain while the standing woman frames its right edge, thus drawing the viewer's attention to the fountain.
