Description

THEODORE ROOSEVELT TLS, 1p, 81/2"x11", New York, Jul 23, 1917 Nice patriotic content. On his personal Metropolitan letterhead to noted naval artist Henry Reuterdahl (1871-1925) regarding Mr. Little's letters "which I received as written by you, 'without prejudice,' as our legal friends say. If you write to Mr. Little tell him for me that he is the kind of an American in whom I believe. I am mighty pleased that you are a Lieutenant in the Naval Reserve. No man has done better work for the American Navy, my dear fellow, than you have done during the last few years. As your fellow American, I thank you..." Boldly signed, adding holograph edits within text. Light general wear; mailing folds; signature only slightly faded; else VG. Reuterdahl retired as Lt. Commander. He had decorated bulkheads of the officers' mess and ward rooms of many WW I battleships and destroyers as well as recruiting posters. His paintings are exhibited at the US Naval Academy, the Navy Department and National Museum, among other venues. Est: $300-500
