Description

A rare Photogravure of “The Surrender of Napoleon to Great Britain” painted by the famous Scottish painter, Sir William Quiller Orchardson, RA (1832 -1910) who was also noted as a portraitist and painter of domestic and historical subjects, and knighted in June 1907, at the age of 75. the print shows Napoleon aboard the Bellerophon. In the background is a group of Napoleon's officers: (left to right) Planat, Montholon, Maingaut, Las Cases, Savary, Lallemand, Bertrand and young Las Cases. The print was published by the Berlin Photographic Co, 133, New Bond St. London and is in a period ornate gilt wood frame. In frame 38"x31"x3 1/4". Weight approximately 27 pds.
