Item Overview

Description

The following 8 lots are by the Avant-Garde Egyptian artist Diran Garabedian. 1882-1963. The artist was born in Cairo of Armenian parents. He studied at the Khorenian Armenian School in Egypt under the guidance of Ervand Demirdjian. In 1900 he entered L'Academie Julien in Paris; he studied there for four years and in 1905 received the degree of L'Ecole des Beau Arts. It was in this year that he decided to break away from the traditional style in favour of modernism. At the age of 46 he exhibited alongside Braque, Mathis, Fugita, Utrillo, Picasso, Chagall, Cocteau amongst others at the Galerie Carmine, Seine in 1928. In virtually all of Garabedian's works there can be seen his passion for fish and birds, though not always obvious at first sight, they became his trademark. This collection is accompanied with two confirmations of authenticity signed by the artist's daughter. Diran Garabedian, Egyptian 1882-1963- Untitled abstract composition; watercolour, signed, 21.5x17cm: together with five other abstract compositions by the same artist, all signed, similar sizes, (6) (unframed)
