Notes

The Dome of the Chain is a small dome situated next to the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. It has an uncertain history but was probably built either during the Umayyad period or prior to Islamic rule in Jerusalem. In Islamic tradition it is often pictured as the site of the Final Judgment, other sources suggest it may have been designed as a treasury. It is an unusual structure which is composed of a domed hexagon with open arches supported by seventeen columns, all of which can be seen from any angle.
