The present lot is a sketch, relating to Heilbuth's work 'The Baths at Caracalla'. Compositionally this is similar to Heilbuth's 'Excavations in Rome' in The Wallace Collection, London, except this version has 'almost identical figures and foreground archaeological detail but without the distant walls' (J. Ingamells, The Wallace Collection: Catalogue of pictures, French 19th Century, London, 1989 p. 342).
